The Camp Enhances Campus Security with Aperio Wireless Access Control
The Camp, an innovative education and business development campus in Aix-en-Provence, France, required a secure, flexible, and sustainable access control solution to protect its offices, event spaces, accommodation units, and shared facilities. By implementing ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio wireless access control technology integrated with TIL Technologies' security platform, The Camp achieved real-time access management while maintaining its open and collaborative environment.
Background
The Camp, a business education and innovation campus in Aix-en-Provence, France, hosts training programmes, start-up accelerators, creative residencies, and corporate events. Its diverse estate includes offices, event spaces, kitchens, meeting rooms, server rooms, and 170 accommodation units. The organisation required a flexible access control solution that could provide security across a wide range of locations while maintaining a welcoming and open environment for both staff and visitors.
Benjamin Ciotto, Head of Information Technology at The Camp, explained that the campus needed a solution capable of handling frequent changes to access permissions for its constantly evolving population of residents, employees, and event attendees. The organisation also wanted real-time management capabilities, sustainable products, and a wireless solution that would preserve the site's interior and exterior design.
Solution
The Camp selected ASSA ABLOY's Aperio wireless access control technology integrated with a TIL Technologies access control system. The installation included 221 Aperio escutcheons, 42 Aperio cylinders, and 10 Aperio handles, securing a total of 273 doors throughout the campus. The wireless solution enabled online integration with the central security platform, allowing administrators to update access rights in real time through Aperio communication hubs.
With Aperio, security managers can instantly grant, modify, or revoke access permissions while creating specific profiles for staff, residents, and visitors. The system secures offices, meeting rooms, server rooms, kitchens, and living spaces, while supporting daily traffic of approximately 250 people and up to 2,000 visitors during large events. Benjamin Ciotto noted that real-time access updates are essential due to the constantly changing campus population, and that the ability to assign access for specific time slots provides valuable flexibility when hosting large meetings and events.
