ABLOY® ACTIVE - An infection reducing antimicrobial coating

Surfaces in doors are a convenient place for harmful microbes to spread through physical contact.Specifically designed for painted door fittings, the ABLOY ACTIVE solution destroys harmful bacteria efficiently thanks to the antimicrobial properties of silver. ACTIVE is ideal for door environments.

This is how silver works against microbes

Silver is lethal against microbes and affects bacteria, for example, in various ways. Silver binds to the bacteria’s proteins, thus inhibiting metabolism. It also damages the cell wall, causing rupture. In addition, silver binds to the DNA which prevents the bacterium from replicating or multiplying. Therefore, silver coating is quite an effective aid in preventing the spread of infections.

HygTech Alliance

We are part of the HygTech Alliance. Our common goal is to develop innovative antimicrobial products and solutions for hygiene safety. We are convinced that construction technology solutions and fittings developed for hygiene maintenance will reduce the number of hospital infections and other diseases that spread through contact.

A test carried out by BioCote in 2016 according to ISO 22196:2011 by a private laboratory found that BioCote® antimicrobial technology is 95–99.9% effective against Escherichia Coli and MRSA bacteria. From the test results of these bacteria, it can be concluded that the BioCote® technology for paint used in ACTIVE coatings is also effective against at least the following bacteria that have the same structure: Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Shigella spp. The silver used in ACTIVE coating is not dangerous to humans and is safe to use.
