Meet Mr Henriksson – an AI generated digital recreation of the curious mindset behind ABLOY.
ABOUT
Some ideas never go out of style
Mr Henriksson, the AI generated digital recreation of the original inventor, is not the return of a historical person. He is an interpretation of something that never really went away: a way of thinking.
The world Mr Henriksson encounters today would have been unimaginable in 1907, when Emil Henriksson came up with the unique operating principle of rotating discs that all ABLOY locks are based on. Over the past century, locks have become connected. Keys can be digital. Access can be managed across buildings, businesses and critical infrastructure. Physical and digital security are increasingly operating as one.
Over the course of ABLOY’s 120th year, Mr Henriksson will investigate the technologies, systems and ideas shaping security today, from mechanical engineering and digital access to connected ecosystems and artificial intelligence.
HISTORY
The original Emil Henriksson
In 1907, Finnish precision mechanic Emil Henriksson was repairing a mechanical cash register when its rotating discs caught his attention. He saw that the principle behind the mechanism could be used differently – an observation that led to his disc-detainer lock and ultimately to ABLOY.
That innovation set a pattern.
Over the decades, the world around us changed. Buildings grew more complex. Cities expanded. Technology moved from mechanical to electrical to digital. Access became something you could control in entirely new ways.
120 years later, Henriksson’s original idea continues to influence ABLOY solutions. And so does the thinking behind it: To observe. To question. To find a better way. And to engineer it to last.
A way of thinking that has kept ABLOY ahead from the very beginning.
