Eol-Ekos and Abloy: Transforming waste management in Croatia
In Croatia’s evolving cities, where history and progress intertwine, waste management is quietly undergoing a revolution. Eol-Ekos, known for its innovative municipal solutions, has partnered with Abloy to reshape how cities manage waste. Since 2006, Eol-Ekos has been enhancing municipal operations, and now, with Abloy’s smart access technology, their vision of cleaner cities and more efficient waste management is becoming a reality.
At the core of this transformation is Abloy’s PROTEC² CLIQ, an advanced access management solution that enables the control of PAYT (Pay-As-YouThrow) devices on waste containers through user identification. Currently in use in 15 Croatian cities and serving over 21,000 daily users, the PAYT billing model encourages residents to recycle more and generate less waste.
Seamlessly integrated into Eol-Ekos’s waste management system, the PROTEC² CLIQ locks provide easy access management and track every movement, giving municipalities a complete audit trail and detailed information on container usage. The solution eliminates the need for complex wiring, reduces maintenance costs, and simplifies management. The result? Fewer trips to landfills and a more sustainable future for urban environments.
As Christian Jurišić, co-founder of Eol-Ekos, explains: “We’re not just improving efficiency; we’re fostering a culture of recycling and environmental responsibility, reducing the impact of waste on our cities.”
With over 500 waste containers already equipped with PROTEC² CLIQ, the partnership is poised for further expansion, with plans to add 1,000 more containers over the next two years. This continued growth underscores the system’s crucial role in transforming waste management in Croatia.
Edin Subašić, head of the technical department at Čistoća Rijeka, shares his experience: “The support from Abloy and Eol-Ekos has been excellent, and the system is already making a big difference in our operations.”
