Irving, TX – May 10, 2022 – As alternative energy facilities continue to develop greener resources and raise their profile, their need to protect assets from potential security threats increases significantly. ABLOY Critical Infrastructure Global Solutions has an impressive track record in this area and will showcase several high security smart locking systems at the CLEANPOWER 2022 Conference & Exhibition. It takes place May 16-18 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.

ABLOY’s PROTEC2 CLIQ system and the new keyless ABLOY® BEAT locking solution offer alternative energy operators substantial access control benefits and a high level of adaptability that no other company can match.

“In the past year we have expanded our reach within alternative energy providers throughout the U.S. Our solutions meet all of the important industry standards and requirements so people can have secured, electronic access control within their facilities or in the field,” remarked Dries Pepler, ABLOY’s Vertical Market Manager – Utility & Telecom.

“ABLOY BEAT and our PROTEC2 CLIQ system are specifically designed to handle any critical infrastructure situation. That’s important because clean energy now supplies over 11% of all the electricity used in the U.S., and that rate is expected to nearly triple by 2030. As integrator partners of ours have proven, we provide the ultimate protection to secure properties including those in remote locations.”

One case in point is the new Heavy Duty Tower Entry Lock for Siemens Gamesa Wind Turbines, a system developed with ABLOY’s systems integrator partner Midwest Security Products

This lock was designed and built to address common key breakage problems with the original access door lock assembly. The stainless steel lock body and heavy cast aluminum handle make it easy to retract the latch and overcome resistance caused by the door’s weather seals. A high security ABLOY lock is contained inside the lock body and ABLOY’s PROTEC2 CLIQ technology provides wireless access control, electronic rekeying and digital audit trails for operators.

“We’re able to take a valuable product technology from ABLOY and build an entirely new product around it to solve some unusual security challenges that our customers face,” said Midwest Security’s president Doug Schoenrock. “This often involves harsh weather conditions, especially in open spaces such as wind farms or any operation involving water.”

Midwest Security Products’ Utility customers in recent years have successfully switched to PROTEC2 CLIQ systems to secure thousands of locking points throughout the U.S. Security managers now have the ability to update, amend, revoke or renew access rights remotely using the latest ABLOY Bluetooth technology paired with a mobile phone.

“With most utilities, there is little to no documentation of who has keys and when they used them. Since most openings are keyed the same, this presents tremendous security risks across the network,” adds ABLOY’s Pepler. “We can help utilities establish full control and meet the NERC CIP regulations and security guidelines.”
