With a smart lock, parcels can be delivered straight to the recipient’s entrance without the recipient being at home. The service makes it easier to receive orders and saves the orderer’s time. The pilot is the first one in Finland. Online sales are growing in Finland by ten percent annually, which makes the pilot significant. Online sales are expected to grow, as Finns anticipate they will make more purchases online in the future than today. As many as one in five (18%) estimate they will purchase everything or almost everything online in 2025, says the survey carried out by Kantar TNS by commission of Posti. “Sales will increasingly shift to digital channels. To respond to the change, Posti wants to create new types of services. With this pilot, we want to develop, together with our partners, a whole new delivery solution for online shopping that makes the everyday life easier for people”, explains Business Strategist Eeva Tiainen of Posti. The pilot utilises Abloy’s Yale Doorman smart lock’s keyless opening feature. A single-use access code created for a parcel delivery will only work for the courier during the delivery. The customer can see in the audit trail from Yale Home app when the parcel has been delivered. “We want to be pioneers in creating new service solutions. The safety of the service is an absolute requirement for us. A key part of the safety is that the user is in control of any access to their home. This is why the pilot project is done with Yale Doorman smart locks. Its features enable this control, and the customer is always informed of who visits the home door and when”, says Panu Hällfors who is responsible for Abloy’s service and software business. New service tested by employees In the first stage, the service has been tested by the employees of Telia, Abloy, and Posti. The pilot is implemented in the Helsinki, Vantaa and Espoo regions. “The results have been encouraging. Based on them, we can develop a service with first-class customer experience that makes the everyday life of customers smoother,” Hällfors explains. In the next phase of the collaboration, the service will be tested with consumers. The goal is to introduce the service for broader use in the near future. Smart home services are growing in popularity Smart home services that make everyday life easier are constantly growing in popularity. According to a survey* commissioned by Abloy, up to 30% of Finns living in detached or semi-detached houses or condominiums could consider letting a transportation service they trust enter their entrance for leaving a delivery there with the help of a smart lock. Telia has also studied the interest of Finns toward smart homes. “We asked the consumers what smart devices or services they would like in their homes. The most popular answer was smart lock. The solution, developed in partnership with Abloy and Posti, is part of the smart home services we offer that have growing demand.
